SHELTER THE HOMELESS & BEAR WRONGS PATIENTLY

SHELTER THE HOMELESS

"Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me" (Mk 9:37) Shelter is the basic need for human beings. Two thousand years ago Son of Man came to this world and asked for a shelter. But, this brutal world did not listen to His cry and chased Him away. Today, in the person of homeless once again Jesus is looking up to us for a shelter. As faithful Christian are we listening to his voice? Pope Francis has launched the Inn for the homeless and medical care unit in Vatican. This is Christian charity.

Today many people are living in streets. Due to war and rival it happens. In the Good Samaritan story, the Samaritan cares for the stranger (Lk 10: 25-35). St. John Bosco, the saint of 19th Century in Italy welcomed the poor and abandoned youngsters in his oratory. During his time there were many orphans in Italy, he welcomed each one of them with fatherly and motherly love in his oratory and gave food, drink and shelter. The simple act of mercy that he began two centuries ago has grown big and bearing fruits in very many countries today through the society of St. Francis de Sales.

Last year in Europe when refugees came from Syria the people in European nations welcomed them with open arms. That is Christian solidarity. As human beings we are all brothers and sisters. We may be divided by nationality, faith, culture, caste and race. But, we all share the same human species. We are all one in nature. During this season of lent particularly in the year of Mercy let us welcome the strangers in our homes.

BEAR WRONGS PATIENTLY

There are lots of corruptions and injustices are taking place in and around the world. Many people raise their voices against these misfortunes. But my questions are whether there is anybody who would bear all the wrongs and crimes patiently? As well as those who do these things will they ever change their mindset? Everyone is liable to commit a mistake. Some do it intently some don’t. Everything cannot be done perfectly. There will be wrong doings.

Some may accuse us wrongly in order to put us down and humiliate us. During those moments there is no use in agitating against them. The more we insist the more they resist. We have to bear those things patiently. It is very hard to become victim for the things that we did not do it. But, by doing this we are waiting for the day, when the truth would overshadow us. Rebelling against injustices and wrongs would intense the problems. Whereas calmness and patience would create an atmosphere of peace and harmony. This means not accepting the wrongs that is imposed on us. Rather, bearing those things as Jesus borne the cross for us.

Patience is the fruit of the Holy Spirit. We cannot bring change or solve the problems by fighting or rebelling against them but only through patient listening and dialogue. It is true that there are many misunderstandings among our own family members, relatives, friends and colleagues. Whatever we do we have to do it slowly and steadily which would avoid mistakes and wrongs. Have the heart of patience and mercy. Because, our God is bearing all the wrongs that we do patiently. When pilate and Jews people condemned Jesus, He did not react back. He was bearing all the accusations patiently (Lk 23: 1-25). His mercy is greater than any of our mistakes.
