IT IS COMING

Today’s readings tell us about the judgment day. In these days reading are indicating the second coming of Jesus so as to conclude the liturgical year and start the new year. These readings always make two kinds of impact in people. First, it will make the people to be frightened about their death and the life after. Sometimes they are threatened to revive their way of life. Secondly, it becomes a routine hearing. Same type of readings are heard again and again. With regard to it actuality, nothing is happening, Jesus is not coming. Thus, never mind of these things. Both the impacts are good to a certain extend. All depends upon the conception of people. But, what we can notice or draw out of these readings is that we have a hope. We are given an assurance. We have a person who began everything in us and who can put everything to an end.
The second reading from the letter to Hebrews tells that Jesus, the high priest has made a sacrifice once and for all which cannot be redone. The priests, whom we encounter in our day today lives are normal human beings who also offer sacrifices, but that is not once and for all. They repeat again and again.
Today also we observe as the world day of the poor, which is introduced by Pope Francis. This is the second year. The readings tell us about our final end. To meet that end as a beautiful one, we need to prepare ourselves faithfully, committing ourselves to love and charity. This day is the right day to show our solidarity to the poor and show our concern for them.
