“O Lord! We cry to thee,
hear our voice.” This is the prayer that must be resounding continuously in the
hearts many faithful amidst these covid 19 pandemic. The readings of today come
as a hope that the Lord is there for us amidst these unprecedented situation. The
insight that comes out to us is that the misery and the suffering that are
vivid now are to reveal the glory of God. The death of Lazarus caused more pain
in the hearts of his beloved sisters; Mary and Martha. Jesus being their close
friend must have also broken down at the death of Lazarus but He did not. Perhaps,
Jesus was glad that He was not there when Lazarus died (Jn 11:15). The purpose
of Lazarus’ death was to reveal God’s glory i.e; Jesus would raise Lazarus from
death to life as a sign of manifesting His divine sonship, so that we may
believe in Him (Jn 11:15). The situation around us today may make us fell
despair and threatened but still we believe that there is a way out. All that
happens are to reveal that glory of God.
Yes, it is difficult to understand
the present vulnerability and that human being - the creature which God loved
most - faces today. All that we need to have is to believe in Him. He is the
resurrection and the life (Jn 11:25) As Jesus was nearing Bethany, Martha and Mary
approached Jesus one after the other with full of hope and trust, not with a
heart of complaining and despair. As a result, they witnessed great miracle: their
brother Lazarus was brought back to life again. Let us hope that at this moment
of suffering the Lord will not abandon us. He would come to us to reveal God’s
glory and extend His divine help. Jesus is asking us, as He asked Martha, Do you
believe? (Jn 11:26). Let us believe in Him.
